DocBike Shropshire Delivers Its First Biker Down Workshop
DocBike Shropshire has reached an important milestone by helping to deliver its first Biker Down workshop in partnership with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The DocBike contribution was led by Fiona Parry, one of our dedicated volunteers, who guided riders through an engaging and thought-provoking session focused on rider awareness and the way the brain processes information on the road.
Practical knowledge riders hope never to need
Biker Down is designed for motorcyclists of all ages and levels of experience. It gives riders practical knowledge that could prove invaluable if they are first on the scene of a motorcycle collision.
The workshop covers three important areas: managing a collision scene, providing initial casualty care and exploring how riders can improve their chances of being noticed by other road users.
Rather than simply talking about the consequences of collisions, Biker Down gives participants the opportunity to discuss realistic situations, ask questions and develop knowledge they can use if the worst happens.
The Thinking Biker element also explores why something that is clearly visible may still go unnoticed. Riders are encouraged to think about how other road users process movement and visual information, and how awareness, focus and well-informed choices can create more margin on every journey.
Prevention is at the heart of DocBike
DocBike is sometimes seen simply as a group of medical professionals who respond after motorcycle collisions.
Our purpose goes much further.
Our clinical team and volunteers see the life-changing effects of motorcycle collisions firsthand. We use that experience to work with riders before a collision happens, supporting better riding, greater awareness and continued rider development.
We may never meet most riders in a clinical setting, and we would prefer it to stay that way.
Workshops such as Biker Down allow us to be part of the local riding community, sharing credible information in a friendly, practical and non-judgemental environment.
Working together in Shropshire
We would like to thank Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service for its support and partnership in delivering the workshop.
We would also like to thank Fiona for representing DocBike Shropshire, everyone who helped organise and deliver the session, and each rider who attended and took part in the discussions.
This was DocBike Shropshire’s first Biker Down workshop, and it marks another positive step in our prevention-led work across the county.
