DocBike and Fire service unite
DocBike Somerset and Avon were recently invited to visit two fire stations in Somerset, Wells and Street, to share knowledge and skills relating to motorbike road traffic collisions.
This invitation followed the successful implementation of the Motorbike Trauma Care course, developed in Somerset and now rolled out across the charity for emergency services personnel.
The sessions began with an overview of the charity and its work, before moving on to the unique challenges of motorbike collisions, including how they differ from other road traffic incidents and considerations when isolating the vehicle. The evenings then progressed into patient care, highlighting the techniques and interventions firefighters may observe being used by ambulance crews at the scene.
These were two highly engaging and productive sessions, bringing together firefighters from Cheddar, Wells, Street, and Somerton fire stations, and strengthening collaborative working across services.
