Bovington Camp biker down
On 22 Apr 26, DocBike volunteers descended en masse, well 8 of us to deliver a Biker Down for military personnel and some dependents at Allenby Bks, Bovington.
We had some 20 bikers attend to be taught how to manage the scene of a motorcycle involved accident. Having a roughy toughy retired Royal Marine now Paramedic, we did some of the scene management training outside. Timed to perfection we moved inside to then practice safe helmet removal in teams. A few mentioned how they might now invest in a flip front helmet!
The last sessions involved practicing CPR. Of Note DocBike also use a female resus doll. Why? Men don’t, in 40% of cases involving females who need CPR, provide that CPR. We believe it’s fear of touching a woman’s breasts and any come back, criticism or negativity from that, that is the cause. The fact that a woman needs CPR because she is not breathing or no heart beat is identified means, she needs CPR! This could involve cutting clothing away for males or females, and for females cutting through the front of her bra… as the paramedics would do anyway!
Moving on! We then demonstrated the use of an AED (defibrillator) which are increasingly, widely available publicly. The device talks you through exactly what you need to do and when you press the big orange button.
Some discussions around pace makers and other devices, even AED use and nipple rings!
Lots of thanks expressed to Sgt Jackson Scots DG who was our host and organiser from the unit side and all attendees left with a well stocked goodie bag.
If your unit’s, garrison or ship could benefit from DocBike delivering a Biker Down (3hrs) or a days event which combines Biker Down and extra mostly practical training and education, including discussions on PPE for new riders and Advanced Rider Trianing with IAM Roadsmart for more experienced riders and bike maintence, give DocBike a ring or ping, see us and like us on Facebook!
BIG THANKS to Chris & Dean for their excellent tutoring plus Colin, James, Lindsey, Simon, Marie, Jo & Mark. Great job everyone 👏👏
