Research shaped by the people who ride

Community involvement

Protecting people. Preserving the enjoyment of riding.

Motorcyclists are at the heart of this work.

Riding a motorbike can bring freedom, enjoyment, friendship and a sense of belonging. These benefits matter. Everything DocBike and MIPnet do is guided by a shared purpose: to benefit motorcyclists and reduce the harm caused by collisions, while protecting the enjoyment of riding.

To do that well, our research needs to reflect real lives. Riders, passengers, families and people affected by collisions bring knowledge that records and statistics cannot provide on their own.

Shared rides, conversations and community. The enjoyment of motorcycling is at the heart of our work.

Opportunities coming shortly

Get ready to help shape our research!

We are developing a platform to help the motorcycling community shape our research. Alongside this, we are applying for Wessex Health Partners small grants funding to support that involvement.

We will shortly be seeking input from motorcyclists and others with relevant lived experience. You will not need an academic background or research experience to contribute.

Community involvement is not open for expressions of interest yet. We will explain the opportunities and how to take part on this page when we are ready. There is nothing you need to sign up for at this stage.

Your perspective will help shape the questions.

We want community involvement to influence what we study and how we do it, from the earliest stages. This includes understanding:

  • Which questions and experiences matter most to riders and families.
  • How research can reach people whose voices are less often heard.
  • What practical approaches to prevention could work in everyday riding.
  • How to share findings in ways that are clear, useful and relevant.

Our aim is research that the motorcycling community can recognise as relevant to their lives, with benefits that matter to them.
