Heidie Coombs Takes the Leap for DocBike Shropshire
After months of planning, build-up and more than a few nerves, Heidie Coombs has done it.
Our Shropshire Area Events Coordinator completed her long-awaited 13,000-foot skydive in support of DocBike Shropshire, raising an incredible £2,500 along the way.
It was a huge personal challenge, and the culmination of months of determination. This was about more than the jump itself. It was about committing to something daunting, facing the nerves, and seeing it through.
We are incredibly proud of Heidie for taking that leap.
A special thank you also goes to her husband, Daz Coombs, our Deputy Regional Lead, for his support throughout, as well as the wider team around her.
We are also very grateful to everyone who donated, shared and encouraged Heidie along the way. Your support helped turn one brave idea into something truly meaningful.
The money raised matters because the need is very real. DocBike exists to help reduce motorcycle deaths and serious injuries on our roads. Across the UK, six motorcyclists are killed and 94 are seriously injured every week, and more than 19,000 motorcyclists are injured every year. DocBike notes that riders make up a very small share of road traffic, and yet account for a disproportionately high number of the most serious outcomes.
Closer to home, the picture is just as stark. In the West Mercia police area, 41 people lost their lives and 313 were seriously injured in motorcycle collisions over the last three years. Those figures are a reminder of why this work matters so much, and why raising funds to support prevention, engagement and awareness is so important.
Heidie’s skydive was a brilliant effort, a real team moment, and a meaningful contribution to DocBike Shropshire’s work to reduce — and ultimately eradicate — motorcycle killed and seriously injured collisions in our area.
