Bikers to gather at Southampton Pub for Charity
A charity motorbike ride is gearing up to raise funds for biker safety by crossing Hampshire on Easter Monday.
Organised in support of DocBike, a charity working to eradicate motorcycle deaths, the ride will take place on Monday, April 6.
Riders will gather at the Peartree Inn, Woolston, known for hosting Bike Nights, from 4.30pm and head out in a convoy to John’s Café on Hayling Island at 6.30pm, aiming to arrive at 8pm.
Funds raised from the ride will go directly toward DocBike’s local engagement resources.
Alex Harding, who works at the Peartree Inn in Woolston and volunteers at Docbike Hampshire, said: “For me, I lost one of my best friends on the side of the road in my arms.
“It’s let me channel my grief into something more proactive.”
Docbike started 12 years ago in Dorset and has helped reduce motorbike deaths in the area by 64 per cent.
The Hampshire branch was set up about three months ago, and Alex said they are aiming to raise funds for a response bike, which costs about £62,500 a year.
Alex estimates that around 600 riders will attend, based on the interest they have received and past events.
Each rider will pay a £5 entry fee.
He said: “We just want to see loads of awareness on the day.
“Even if every biker only takes away something little, like how to take a helmet off safely after impact, then that is a win.
“It would just be great to see the support.”
A spokesperson for DocBike Hampshire said: “We are honestly blown away by the kindness that the Peartree Inn and its regulars are showing us.
“We have loved getting to know the local riders at the Peartree Bike nights over the last few weeks.
“We are eager to meet even more of the community at our future events, or through the valuable training offered by BikerDown and BikeSafe courses.”
Supporters and spectators are encouraged to visit the DocBike Hampshire team, who will have plenty of stickers and merchandise at both the start and the finish of the ride out.
