#AAW2023 Thank You!
Coordinated by Air Ambulances UK, DocBike was asked to help spread the word and what better way than to showcase those air ambulance charities who are in some way, looking to save more lives through working collaboratively with DocBike to prevent people (in our case motorcyclists) from becoming patients.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to Air Ambulances UK and to all of the air ambulance charities across the UK that are in some way working collaboratively with DocBike for the benefit of our society.
DocBike research suggests that 80% of those killed or critically injured on a motorcycle could have avoided that crash altogether – even when it wasn’t their fault, but to do so requires awareness and training that isn’t taught to obtain the standard motorcycle license. DocBike is keen to fill this void, but we’re realistic. We ride motorcycles and we understand the pleasure and the freedom that doing so brings. It’s because of this that:
- DocBike will never tell motorcyclists what to do
- We’re passionate about using research and evidence to make information available to bikers, that could help save their lives, but we’ll never force it down their throat!
- We’re very interested in what can help prevent a motorcyclist from being involved in a crash, without limiting the enjoyment that motorcycling brings
- We’re very open to working with everyone to provide excellence in clinical care and also in helping to prevent crashes from happening in the first place.
Last year, the DocBike charity sifted through years of motorcycle collision data in the South West, identified the most common causes of motorcycle crashes and then got top tips from one of the country’s most advanced police motorcycle instructors on how everyday bikers can avoid these types of crashes – regardless of who is at fault. You can read our guide here!
DocBike currently has a branch of the charity in 7 regions and we’re growing! It’s our aim to associate a DocBike with every Air Ambulance across the UK to do three things:
1 – To put air ambulance doctors and critical care paramedics onto a motorcycle to provide critical care under their existing governance framework to anyone who needs their help, not just motorcyclists. Watch a short video on how this is already happening in parts of the UK now.
2 – To help teach members of the public what to do if they come across an injured motorcyclist at the roadside through BikerDown courses. Watch a 15-minute video from MCN News on how we do this.
3 – To give riders the awareness and skills to avoid being involved in a motorcycle collision through our research and collaborative engagement across the UK

Thank you to all those who are working collaboratively to help keep our motorcycling community healthy.
